"Truth, This I Know" features artwork by the children of West Side Children, the ministry for children and their families at Redeemer West Side Church. In the midst of a year where so much of life has been shaken up by the pandemic, the kids at West Side Children took the time to think about what "truth" means. What is true for you? What is true for the world? What do you know? Through their observations, musings, and interpretations, we invite you to consider that which remains true, through the eyes of children.

GROUP PROJECT SUBMISSIONS

Below are the submissions for the Group Art Project. Each participating child was assigned a few words from verses John 14:1-6. After they were given their words, they were asked to draw something that resonated with them regarding their little piece of scripture. The result is the formation of a collage made up of each artist’s interpretation of their given words.

John 14:1-6
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

INDIVIDUAL SUBMISSIONS

Below are submissions made individually by the children. Each participant was asked to create a piece based upon the truths they have in their hearts. The works reflect each child’s uniqueness and invite us to consider what we may hold true in our own hearts.

The Gallery at W83

At the Gallery at W83, we cultivate art and community on the Upper West Side, providing space for personal engagement, community conversations, and spiritual reflection, and collaborate with local artists from diverse backgrounds to explore universal themes of culture, community, and faith.

We bring together different perspectives in this space as an invitation to join in conversations we believe are vital to us all. We affirm the artist's right to express their views independently, and the views expressed by the artists are their own and do not necessarily represent the Gallery at W83 or Redeemer West Side.
