New Tango

  • W83 Ministry Center 150 W. 83rd Street NEW YORK United States (map)

NYCP’s November program presents two sides of the human experience. One side represents the despair found in artistic loneliness, with Samuel Adler’s Duo for Eight Strings - composed in the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic - paired with Shostakovich’s gripping and grief-stricken Chamber Symphony. The second half of the program embodies the exuberant joy of the human spirit, as exemplified by Argentinian Tango. Astor Piazzolla’s Otoño Porteño for violin and orchestra represents the tango traditions of the 20th century. Representing the “new Tango” of the new century is the premiere of the Double Concerto for Bandoneon and Cello by award-winning bandoneon player and composer JP Jofre.
