A restaurant where we held a special celebration, a bench with our favorite view at the park, or the corner where we received an important phone call: these are all public places that can hold personal meaning. The collection of these special spots in a neighborhood is what can make places meaningful; to make a place for ourselves is both a physical and an emotional act.
W83 Gallery invites you to participate in Making Place, an interactive art project exhibiting the collective memories and places of meaning in our Upper West Side neighborhood. From now through August 25, we invite you to take pictures of places on the UWS special to you in terms of Change, Beauty, Joy, Love or Loss and label it with #MakingPlaceUWS on social media (Instagram, Twitter). Your images will be collectively displayed as part of this exhibition. Share as much or as little as you would like about the significance of the place. Please include the location's name and cross streets. A physical map will be on display for the duration of the exhibit, and we invite you to come by and mark the places tangibly as well.
Exhibit opens July 21, runs through September 4.
Closing reception: Tuesday, August 23, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
