Choreographed by Lindsey Hanson, performed by Lindsey Hanson Collective
Lindsey Hanson’s site-specific and multimedia dance piece Sanctuary activates the modern architecture of her church, Redeemer West Side, with dancers from Lindsey Hanson Collective performing amid, over and sometimes under the pews. The dance piece explores themes of connection and perspective, and the slow or sudden ways both can shift. After a year of us practicing physical distance due to the pandemic, Sanctuary invites us to consider how we engage with the spaces around us, the ways we interact with one another, and how we define church beyond brick and mortar walls. Through dance, Sanctuary suggests the new life that can invigorate a worship space and the ways we can connect with spirituality.
